《双城记》以法国贵族的荒淫残暴、人民群众的重重苦难和法国大革命的历史，来影射当时的英国社会现实，充分展现了两座城市的状况。《双城记》被誉为描写法国大革命的最杰出的代表作，我想最大的原因可能是因为它的与众不同。和其他的作品，比如卡莱尔的《法国大革命》不同，狄更斯更注重的是底层人民的喜怒哀乐。尽管在那个时代，这些小人物本身并不能引起世界的关注。但是作者敏锐的捕捉到这些小人物和大革命有着千丝万缕的联系，可以说法国大革命本身就是有小人物们的力量所引发的。
