A brief introduction of the novel
The Life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe is a novel by Daniel Defoe. It was first published in 1719 and sometimes regarded as the first novel in English. The book is a fictional autobiography of the title character, an English castaway who spends 28 years on a remote tropical island near Venezuela, encountering Native Americans, captives, and mutineers before being rescued. When I first read this novel
I first read this novel when I was a primary school student. At that time, what I read was a book written in Chinese and with many pictures in it.I thought Robinson’s experience was very interesting and exciting, and I hoped that I could also have such experience one day. When I have watched the movie
Several weeks ago, we learned Daniel Defoe and his novel The Life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe. We also watched the movie in the cla.Robinson was keen on adventuring. And once he was setting sail to Africa, they encountered a storm and the ship sank.Robinson survived from the storm and escaped to a desert island while others all died in it.Taking the useful things from the ship, Robinson began to live on the island.I have to say that Robinson was very clever and calm.If I were
him, I would feel desperately despaired didn’t how to make a living on this island.Maybe I would die after several days. When he was searching for things in the ship, he found that there was another one who had survived. It was his dog called Rex.So he took the dog as well to the island. He founded a house for himself and picked wild fruits to eat.And he also made a special wood to remind himself of the date.At first, he only hunted for wild animals to eat.But later, he tried to domesticate them and plant crops for himself.I think he is a person who know how to make a live very well, and that’s why he can live on the island for 28 years and be rescued at last.I think the most serious problem to solve is how to overcome the sense of loneline.Human beings are social animals. We need to
connect with other people.Sometimes we want to be alone, but at other times we sense a deep longing to be with others. We want to share our happine and sorrows with others, and we also need other people’s care when we are ill or upset.During the time Robinson was on the island, once he was seriously ill and couldn’t get up by himself. He was very thirsty but there was no water at hand and there was no one who could bring water to him.He was despaired at that time and thought that he would die.But fortunately, he overcame the disease and kept living alone.Later, he saved a captive and named him Friday because it was
Friday that day.Friday became his servant and friend as well. One day, the sailors of an English ship blundered in mutiny near the island.Robinson helped to put down the mutiny and left for England together with Friday by this ship. This time, I don’t think Robinson’s experience was interesting. On the contrary, I consider that his experience was full of dangerous. If I were left alone on such an island, I would not survive.I really appreciate Robinson’s intelligence, perseverance and calmne. And I also hope that I would never have such experience in my life.
