My Reflection on The Film
Philadelphia is the first Hollywood studio picture to take AIDS as its primary subject. It is the film about discrimination against AIDS patients and homosexuals. An all-American crowd scene in “Philadelphia” teems with fighting-mad AIDS activists and poster-wielding homophobes.“AIDS cures homosexuality” reads one handmade sign, caught and held for a moment by Jonathan Demme's cameraman. It's a clue--maybe not a subtle one--that prejudice, not gayne, is on trial in the heart-wrenching courtroom drama at hand.Andrew is a dying man,but he never forgive himself,When he find Joe to be his counselor, and then was rejected. However,he does not despair.Andrew’s eyes still full of hope when he stood at the gate of Joe’s law firm.At last,he makes up his mind that he to be the counselor for himself. No, not only for himself, but also for the equity, for the free, for the law,for the respect. What’s more,he is the counselor,he love the law more than his life.I admire Andrew’s eence.Even though his body become worse and worse,he sticked to finish trial. He thought he is normal as others, he never care others how to think, he just want to respect. When he in the library,he rejected go to the personal-room.I think everyone want to be respected,he must
respect himself firstly.Joe is the guy who discriminate the AIDS and homosexual.Joe, who can hardly keep himself from wiping his hand on his pants after shaking Andrew's hand, is initially reluctant to take the case. But his better instincts prevail. And after his wife’s rating and Andrew’s spirit,he choosed the law and to protect the AIDS patients. As a counselor,he made his best to insist Andrew.I love the Joe of his character. He is the man like us who can’t accept homosexual at the bottom of his heart, while he is the man dislike us who know it’s tough to respect an AIDS patient to sue a renowed law firm.As my point of view,we must to think deeply about AIDS patient and try to understand the homosexual. With all of the plaudits garnered by Hanks, the work of Denzel Washington, while le obvious, is as impreive.Washington plays the “everyman”, the on-screen representation of those in the audience who harbor homophobic tendencies. He, like many viewers, is forced to examine his bigotry and reae his feelings about the gay community as he comes to know them as people rather than symbols and caricature
Actors don’t come any more average-Joe-like than Hanks, who shows both enormous courage and immense ability in the role of
Andrew.Bald, emaciated and marked by purple Kaposi’s sarcoma lesions, Hanks heart-wrenchingly re-creates the dreadful cost of the disease. In its own way, “Philadelphia” is really a buddy movie, and Hanks and Washington are as beautifully teamed as Gibson and Glover in their squad car.Genial, handsome and full of subversive humor, Washington brings far more than the irony of skin color to the role of social avenger.Philadelphia actually is a good film.It full of conflict between the right and the discrimination everywhere, and it would let you think more about humanity.
