Goodmorning.AsIenterthefinalweekofmypresidency,I'mextraordinarilygratefulforalltheprogrewe'vemadetogethertheselasteightyears--buildingthestrongesteconomyinageneration,renewingourethicofreoibility,andstrengtheningthebondsofcommunityandfamilyallacroAmerica.TodayIwanttotalkaboutourprogreinreducingyouthviolenceandnewstewe'retakingtomakeourcommunitiesevensafer.Overthepastfewyears,terribletragediesatColumbineandotherschoolshaveforcedustotakeahardlookatyouthviolence,andanevenharderlookatwhateachofuscandoandmustdotoeurethatsuchtragediesdonothaenagain.Althoughtherearenosimplesolutio,recentevidencesuggestswearemovingintherightdirection.Accordingtothelatestdata,violentcrimebyyoungpeoplehasbeencutnearlyinhalfsince1993;schoolyarddeathshavedroeddramatically.Thesearebothimportantdeclinesthatreflectthelowestnationalcrimeratein25years.But,still,wehavemoretodo.Atmydirection,theWhiteHouseCouncilonYouthViolencehasdevelopedanewweiteandtoll-freeinformationlinetohelpparentsandeducatorsgetthefactstheyneedtoreduceyouthviolence.Theweiteaddreiswww.daodoc.com.Andthetoll-freenumberis1-866-SAFE-YOUTH.That'swww.daodoc.com,and1-866-SAFE-YOUTH.I'malsopleasedtoreleaseanotherimportantresource--aguideforparentsoncommunicatingbetterwithteenagers.ItincorporatesthelatestresearchaswellasthebestideasfromtheWhiteHouseConferenceonTeenagers,whichHillaryandIooredlastyear.We'lldistributethispublicationnationwidethroughtheweite,thetoll-freelineandwiththeaistanceofschoolprincipals,schoolnursesandpediatricia.Likeallparents,HillaryandIknowit'snotalwayseasytotalkwithyourchildrenaboutseitivesubjects.That'swhythisnewguideioveryvaluable--becauseitteachesparentshowtolistenmorecarefullytotheirchildrenandnurturerelatiohibuiltontrust,love,disciplineandreect.Americahasmadealotofprogreinrenewingtheseenduringvaluesandstrengtheningourseeofnationalcommunity.Arecordnumberofyoungpeoplenowvolunteerforcommunityservice.So,together,we
