Opening Addre of Wang Chen at the 2nd Forum on the Development of Tibet, China Director of the State Council Information Office Rome, Italy, October 22, 2009 尊敬的桑德罗·邦迪部长，尊敬的朱利奥·安德雷奥蒂先生，尊敬的切萨雷·罗米蒂先生，女士们、先生们、朋友们：
Respected Minister Sen.Sandro Bondi Respected Mr.Giulio Andreotti, Respected Mr.Cesare Romiti, Ladies, gentlemen and friends, 在秋风送爽的季节里，中国国务院新闻办公室、意大利意中基金会、中国驻意大利使馆联合在历史文化名城罗马隆重举行“西藏：发展的前景 合作的机遇——第二届西藏发展论坛”，来自中国、意大利、奥地利、美国、印度、澳大利亚、西班牙、比利时等国的政府官员、专家学者和各界人士齐聚一堂，共商西藏发展，探讨经济、社会、文化领域的合作，这不仅是中意两国经济合作和文化交流中的一件有意义的事情，也是一次研究当代西藏发展问题的重要的国际藏学盛会。在此，我谨代表中国国务院新闻办公室对各位来宾表示热烈的欢迎，对意大利政府的大力支持，对意中基金会为本次论坛所作出的努力和付出的辛劳，表示诚挚的谢意！
At this occasion of fresh autumn breezes bringing us cool, the Second Forum on the Development of Tibet, with a theme of “Tibet: Development Prospects and Cooperation Opportunities,” which is jointly held by the Information Office of the State Council of China, Italy-China Foundation of Italy and Chinese Embay in Italy, now opens at the historical cultural city of Rome.Government officials, scholars and experts, and personages from other walks of life from China, Italy, Austria, the United States, India, Australia, Spain and Belgium join together in discuing the development of Tibet and exploring opportunities for cooperation in the economic, social and cultural fields.This is not only an event of significance in the economic cooperation and cultural exchange between China and Italy, but also a grand meeting of international Tibetologists on the study of iues related to the development of Tibet in modern times.Here on behalf of the Information Office of the State Council of China, I warmly welcome all guests present and give my sincere thanks to the Italian Government for its support and to the Italy-China Foundation for the effort and hard work it has done for this Forum.中国和意大利都是有着悠久历史和灿烂文化的文明古国，虽然相隔千山万水，但两国的交往岁月绵长。700多年前，马可·波罗开辟了中意交往的先河，此后的利玛窦、郎世宁进一步拉近了中意两国人民的距离。意大利文艺复兴时期的巨人但丁、达?芬奇、米开朗基罗、拉斐尔、伽利略等，为中国人民所熟悉，他们的伟大思想对中国产生了深远影响。
China and Italy are both countries with a long history, splendid culture and ancient civilization.Though far apart geographically, our two countries have a long history of contacts.Over 700 years ago, Marco Polo opened up the contacts between China and Italy.Later, Matteo Ricci and Giuseppe Castiglione brought closer our two peoples.Great Italian masters during the Renaiance, such as Dante Alighieri, DaVinci, Michelangelo, Raphael and Galileo, are familiar to the Chinese people, with their great thoughts having had profound influence on China.
