Procedures

Step1 Revision

(Speak in Chinese, revise some words 、phrase and sentences)

1. beautiful, peaceful, educational, historic, touristy, fascinating, relaxing, exciting, dangerous

2. Travel spotlight, Florida beach, Niagara Falls, Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral

3. Where would you like to visit?

(I ‘d like to visit Hongkong/……/trek through the jungle. Why? Because I like to go somewhere relaxing/beautiful/fascinating…. )

Why not consider visiting Bifeng Gorge?

I hope to go there some day.

Step2 1. Brainstorming(集体讨论) things for vacation

Almost everyone likes traveling, but what things are important to you when you go on vacation. Let’s have a brainstorming to list things important to you going on vacation.

e.g.:

Not too hot Stay at hotel at night

Near the sea Eat clean food

Plan ahead Drink much water

Go with friends Bring a map

Step3 2a Listening and numbering

Let’s see the three pictures:

Picture 1: What can you see? Is it a warm travel spotlight? Is she cold?

Is she beautiful? Is the sea peaceful?

Picture 2: What’s this? It’s a great whale. What’s she watching? She’s watching whales. Have a great whale watch tour(看鲸鱼的旅游)Is it dangerous?

Picture 3: What’re they doing? They’re playing the roller coaster. Is it thrilling? Are the kids happy? It’s fun for kids.

Say:

Jeff is working at a travel agency(旅行社) for the summer vacation. Now listen to the conversations and number the pictures on page 55.

Woman1: Jeff, I have to go out for half an hour. Could you please answer the phone? Just take messages and I’ll call people back.

Jeff: Sure. Hello, Ace Travel. Jeff Marino speaking. How may I help you?

Woman2: I’d like some information on vacation packages, please.

Jeff: My boss is out of the office for half an hour. Could she call you back?

Woman2: Actually, I’d like to get some information now, if you wouldn’t mind…

Jeff: Oh, well, I guess it would be OK. So, where would you like to go?

Woman2: Oh, I don’t know. Somewhere warm.

Jeff: Somewhere warm… How about Hawaii?

Woman2: Oh… no… I… I don’t like flying.

Jeff: OK. Well, there’s always…

Jeff: Hi, Ace Travel. Jeff Marino speaking.

Man: Hello. I’d like to find out about your vacation packages.

Jeff: Sure.What kind of vacation are you looking for?

Man:Well,I hope to go on a nature tour.

Jeff: Well, we have a great whale watch tour. You might like that.

Man: Hmmmm… It depends on where it is. I don’t want to go anywhere cold.

Jeff: Hmmm… let’s see. Yes, we have a summer whale watch tour…

Jeff: Hi. Ace Travel. May I help you?

Woman3: I hope so. I saw your advertisement for vacations in California. We’d like to go somewhere that’s fun for kids.

Jeff: Fun for kids… hmmm… How about Los Angeles? Kids love visiting Hollywood.

Woman3: Oh, but we don’t really like big cities.

Jeff: See. Then maybe you’d enjoy…

Step4 2b Listening and completing

Now I will play the tape once again and you are to complete the chart on page 55.

Give a chart.

Ask: Who can come to the blackboard to write down your answers?(three students)

Now read after the listening script (pause the tape)

Explain some important phrases.

Step5 2c Doing pairwork

Look at the chart in 2b and role play Jeff’s conversations.

Picture1: Where does customer1 want to go?

She want to go somewhere warm.

What doesn’t she want to do?

She doesn’t want to fly.

Picture2 and 3 are the same.

If you were customer1, I were Jeff. Let’s make a conversation.

T: Where would you like to go?

S: I’d like to go somewhere warm.

T: What else can you tell me?

S: I don’t want to fly.

[Explain:What else can you tell me?(你还能告诉我别的什么?)

e.g.: Where else did you go?(你还去过别的什么地方?)

Did you see anybody else there?(那儿你还见过别的什么人吗?)]

Ask 3 groups to act out:

A: Where would you like to go?

B: I like to go on a nature tour.

A: What else can you tell me?

B: I don’t really want to go somewhere cold.

B: Where would you like to go?

A: I like to go somewhere that’s fun for kids.

B: What else can you tell me?

A: I don’t really like big cities.
