Unit Eight The Busine World Reading Iced Tea Teaching Aims: 1.Learn and grasp words and exprees in the text.2.Comprehend the text thoroughly, Try to improve the students’ reading ability.Important and difficult Points: 1.Analysis and comprehend some sentences which may be in the way while reading 2.Pay special attention to the –ing form and past participle in the text used as attributive, predictive and adverbial.Teaching Methods: 1.Fast reading to get a general idea of the text.2.Careful reading to get the detailed information in the text.3.Analysis the difficult sentences 4.Try to give more chances to individuals and also have a mind to get the students to have a chance to cooperate with others in pair work or group work.Teaching Aids: Multimedia and blackboard Emotion Target : 1.Educate the students to have the will of self study , and form the habit of learning to cooperate with the partners.2.By studying the text , let the students to learn about the story of iced tea, and then form a will of creating and learn to face the difficulty optimisticly.Teaching Procedures: Step1.Warming-up 1.Check out news words and expreions in the text learnt last leon.2.Introduction: 1)Ask the students something about the World Expo held in ShangHai in 2010.2)Introduce the text, today we will learn a story which happened in a World Expo in 1904, first let’s Look at the pictures in the text, then answer:(1)What is in the cup?(2)Do you know how iced tea became famous? Step2.Fast reading to get the general idea of the text.1)Read the text within 5 minutes with the following questions: 1.What important event took place in St.Louis, Miouri in 1904? 2.For how long was the Fair held in St.Louis? 3.Why was the Fair called the “World’s University”? 4.Why did Richard Blechyden go to the Fair? 5.Was the people interested in his tea at first? Why? 6.What did Richard do to change his way of busine? 7.How should we handle the situation when something goes wrong? Ask the individuals to answer the questions.2).Pay attention to the following words and expreions.deal with take a turn give away be interested in go mad from then on mix with with the strong desire taste good and cool become a hit brewed tea Ask the students to give out English form while the teacher gives out the Chinese meanings.Step3.Careful reading to consolid the comprehension of the text, solving the difficulties in the way of understanding 1 Analysis and understand the following sentences: 1).It takes both rain and sunshine to create a rainbow.(it 在这里是什么用法?)2).With the strong desire to expand his busine, he had planned to give away free samples of hot tea to fair visitors.(注意with的用法)3).The iced tea tasted good and cool, so that people all come here and asked for a drink.(taste 是动词,为什么后面是形容词 good and cool?)给同学们较充足的时间去分析和思考,这些有一定的难度,所以要注意不同层次学生的学情差异,要有选择性并给以鼓励。允许犯错,且鼓励犯错。Analysis : 1.it 是形式主语,代替to create a rainbow.注意它的含义与课文中心的呼应。即,即使精彩的人生有顺境也有逆境。2.注意with 的用法。怀有强烈的意愿,表附带说明或特征。3.taste 后用 good and cool 而没有用well 等副词,原因是taste 是连系动词,后面要求用形容词表主语的特征或性质。2.Difficult sentences for comprehension.1).His dream was to sell his tea at the Fair.Be to do 结构是用来表示对主语内容的解释说明。如:
His job is to teach English.他的工作是教英语。
My wish is to send you to college.我的愿望是把你们送入大学。2).Blechynden nearly went mad worrying about his failure.Worrying 这个-ing form 在这里是表示原因,在这里做状语。
-ing form 做状语可以表原因,伴随,方式,条件等。但其本身表示的动作应由句子的主语发出。如:
He sat there thinking.thinking 表伴随,由he 发出。
You can learn English well doing a lot of reading.Doing a lot of reading 表原因,由you 发出。

Group work.You can find the useful words and expreions in the text to make a short paage to expre your idea, you can also use your own words to give out your own opinion.运用合作教学,分小组进行,在这一环节,基础差的同学可以用课文中的语句,有能力的同学要有自己的想法和表达方式。最后,各组提交至少一份书面材料以供讨论。教师要机动巡视予以鼓励和适时的帮助。在评价方面,可以从时态,用词等方面做出恰当的评价,也要对各组抽签产生的个体进行个人积累性评价,这样,组员和本组的成绩就连在一起,不会产生优等生和均等生有话,而较差的同学无语的情况。Step7.Homework.1.Read the text again and recite the first and the last paragraphs.2.Try to find and grasp the important useful words and expreions in the text.
