教材分析：
本节课是本单元的第四节课，教学的重点在于通过泛读进一步增强学生的阅读水平，培养其阅读技巧，对于词组、句子的教学需结合学生的词汇量、句子分析能力来展开。第一部分—“play on cards”具有趣味性，可以用来导入。而第二部分—“the Noodle Harvest”是一个英国人熟知的一个笑话，可借此来引申为英美国家文化、风俗的教学。
学情分析：
高一（1）班的学生，女生基础好，能够很好的配合教学活动，对于“作业的核查”、“复述笑话”、“对话”等内容可放心使用女生。而大部分的男生基础薄弱，但思维活跃，对课外内容涉及较多，所以“讲解笑话”、“英美文化的简介”等内容可启用男生。
教学的思想：

2.让学生学习并享受笑话

1.让学生使用跳读、快速阅读等技巧
2.把Sherlock Holmes和Dr.Watson的故事改成对话

2.让学生学习一些英语笑话及故事
3.让学生掌握英语幽默的种类

1.让学生用不同的阅读技巧在不同的阅读材料中提取游泳信息。

过程设计
Step 1 Revision
1.Check the homework exercises.2.Ask students to translate some sentences to review the –ing form as the
object complement
Step 2 Leading-in
1.Ask students what ―play on words ‖ is.2.Do some ―play on words ‖ with students.Step 3 Enjoying English jokes
1.Ask students to read the customer and waiter jokes and match the joke
with the explanation.2.Let them read the jokes aloud to the tapes, pay attention to the rhythm
and intonation and then tell them to each other.3.Have some of them tell the jokes to the cla.Step 4 Enjoying the funny story of Holmes and Watson
1.Ask students rend and enjoy the story.2.Have them discu the question:
Which of the two kinds of jokes do you like better? Why?

1.Let students change the story of Holmes and Watson into a dialogue and
