My feeling after reading Elantris

The city, Elantris, is a kind of Utopia, people praise it, use all magnificent words to describe it.It is so gigantic, so beautiful, that everyone yearn for becoming a part of Elantris.But when the disaster comes, believers betray the city unhesitatingly, they are terrified of the curse.So called “believers”, just believe the power the residents in Elantris have, they are blinded by gain.We can see the consequence through the author’s words, Arelon is in a state of devastation, Arelon is facing the doomsday.I think that means people who always do things for gain can’t find what they really need, they focus on power, money and desire.During a person’s whole life, from born to death, he doesn’t have anything, and he doesn’t loose anything.Power, is something you can hold for a short time, it will disappear some day, maybe you don’t know, but it does disappear.No one will care, only you feel disappointed.How to ease yourself, not just focus on the surface, is our main goal.I think there are two heroes in this story, one is Raoden and one is Hrathen.Many people don’t understand why I say Hrathen is also a hero, because in the first part of this book, he plays a dark role.When he was young, a man brought deeply fear to him, so that he lost his belief, and became darkne in his heart.After he finds the man is around him, he decides to give up his fulfillment, and chooses to die with the man.He finally find his belief, and saves Arelon.A person who has own belief, and carries on following the belief, is a magic existence.This kind of people will make you have to respect them, cause they know why they are here, they are willing to devote their bodies and their spirits to their faith.You can see their light, you can see how they burn in the air, and how holy the fire is.Actual self, faith, desire and fate are the main four factors in my opinion.Elantris, is a shadow land, which is filled with people’s dreams and desires, but no one will tell others about their own Elantris.
